As a writer, editor, author, event organizer, coach and more in a career spanning close to 40 years, Marc Bloom has been a leading figure in track and field, running, and the health and fitness movement.

Books: Marc has written 8 books including collaborative autobiographies of Frank Shorter and Steve Scott, Rodale's "Run With the Champions" which ranks and chronicles America's greatest distance runners, and his current, acclaimed, "God on the Starting Line" (Breakaway Books), about his experience coaching a Catholic high school cross-country team.

The Runner Magazine : Marc was editor-in-chief from the magazine's start in 1978 to its close in 1987. During its 9-year-run, The Runner was considered the leading magazine in its field, noted for its penetrating profiles, insightful coverage of world-class events and innovative photography and design.

Runner's World: Marc has been a senior contributor since 1988, doing profiles of top runners, covering events worldwide and writing articles on health, fitness and training. He is also editor of RW High School Runner. In 1991, Marc was athlete invitations coordinator and script writer for the RW 25 th anniversary celebration in NY.

The New York Times : Marc's articles on all aspects of running and track and field, from high school to the Olympics, have appeared in The Times sports pages since 1966. Marc has also written numerous sports commentaries and was running-and-fitness columnist for the paper's participant sports section in the early '90s. Marc has also written for the Times Magazine, Travel Section, Book Review, New Jersey Section, Women's Health and Op-Ed pages.

The Harrier: In 1974, Marc founded "The Harrier," now in its 30 th year of publication. Though the name has expanded to "The Harrier's High School Cross Country Report," it is still called "The Harrier" by most of its thousands of readers nationwide. "The Harrier's" influence is felt in all aspects of the sport, and its Super 25 National Team Rankings have led to the creation of many major events including the Great American Festival and Nike Team Nationals.

Nike Team Nationals : Marc is a member of the executive committee of this high school championship, serving in various capacities including co-chair of the rankings committee that compiles weekly regional rankings resulting in final selections into the event.

The "Julio" Story : Marc's 16,000 word-article, "Me and Julio Down By the School Track," written for "The Runner" in 1986, has been called the best track story ever written by many fans. It's about the high school 2-mile relay record run in New York in 1966 by Andrew Jackson High and Boys High. The record stood for 36 years.

General Magazine Writing: Marc's articles have appeared in New York Magazine, American Health, Health, Parenting, New Jersey, Skiing, World Tennis, Sports Illustrated For kids, Sports Illustrated for Women, Cooking Light and other publications.

Special Projects : In the early '90s, Marc created, wrote and edited Nike "Swoosh" magazine covering Nike International athletes as well as Nike world championship and Olympic Games image pieces. Marc has also done marketing and communications work for Foot Locker, Fuji, The New York Times, Duomo Photography, National Scholastic Sports Foundation and other clients.

Masters mile : Marc created and directed the highly-successful Runner's World Masters Mile track series for top runners 40-and-up. The events, held at the Millrose Games, Penn Relays and other major meets from 1987 through 1994, led to Eamonn Coghlan's historic 3:58.15 mile at age 41. Other participants included all-time greats Jim Ryun, Frank Shorter, Bob Schul, Kip Keino, Mike Boit and Peter Snell.

Coaching: Marc coached the St. Rose High School boys cross-country team in Belmar, New Jersey, from 1997 through 2001. The team won back-to-back State Group championships in 2000-01, and is the subject of Marc's current book, "God on the Starting Line."

Teaching: After college, while embarking on his journalism career, Marc taught language arts and creating writing in a New York City middle school. He was faculty advisor or the school newspaper and yearbook and his students won many writing awards. In recent years, Marc has done volunteer teaching at Manna House for homeless women in Monmouth County, New Jersey.

Awards, Honors : Marc is a three-time recipient of the Track & Field Writers Association Jesse Abramson Award as the nation's leading track writer. Marc has also received the Penn Relays Jesse Abramson Award for journalistic excellence, Road Runners Clubs of America Journalism Award, USA Women's Cross Country Committee Award, NY City Public Schools Athletic League Service Award and Manhattan College Don Dumphy Media Award, Pathmark Track & Field Service Award and NY Metropolitan Athletics Congress Media Award.
